In 2008, Como launched Project Pink to join in the fight against breast cancer. In an effort to raise awareness and financial support to find a cure, we painted our highest volume propane delivery truck pink and pledged to donate one penny from every gallon delivered by the pink truck to the fight. The first year of the campaign, Como raised just over $9,000 and donated it to the American Breast Cancer Foundation. To offer support closer to home, in 2009, Como chose to donate the funds raised from the pink truck to Women Rock, a local organization run by volunteers whose mission is to raise awareness and funds for local breast cancer research, clinical trials, equipment upgrades and patient care. Currently, all of the funds raised by Women Rock are donated to the St. Luke's Regional Breast Center.
"We are honored by the partnership we share with Como Oil and Propane," said Rebecca Lindberg, Development Associate for the St. Luke's Foundation. "Their 'compassion in action' makes a difference in the lives of patients who are struggling to accept an unwanted diagnosis. Como serves as a inspiration to all of us and hopefully motivates others to take action on this war against cancer."
To date Project Pink has raised over $82,000. "One penny per gallon may not seem like a lot," commented Joe Stariha, Como's Co-President and CFO, "but it adds up quickly!" As we roll into our fifth year of Project Pink we are committed to helping Women Rock raise funds to help the St. Luke's Regional Breast Center purchase a Specimen Radiography system. This machine is considered one of the best systems to ensure good outcomes for patients undergoing mastectomy and stereotactic breast biopsy. Costing around $85,000, the revolutionary technology provides sharp, high-quality images for rapid specimen verification and minimizes patient discomfort and time under anesthesia.
We want to sincerely thank all Como customers for their supporting Project Pink. We wouldn't be able to make such a valuable contribution without you!
